War(m)

War(m) is not a dance piece, it's a journey.

After a joyful and festive first edition on April 5th, 2025, conceived specifically for and with the Théâtre Louis Aragon in Tremblay-en-France, its surrounding area, and its urban landscapes, War(m) has the potential to come to life in various contexts and cities.

Developing a journey for the audience, warming up the spectators, presenting a piece from the repertoire that explores Ukrainian folklore with an optimistic and joyful spirit, sharing a moment of life like a meal or the dance floor... Each invitation is an opportunity to unfold or refold the format, whose structure can be adapted to the desires and specificities of the venues where it takes shape.

It's also a way to prioritize a more amplified artistic presence: how to present an artistic world, immerse the audience in a culture, discover an approach in greater depth, all within the span of an XXL dance event.

Intention

"The word WAR(M) embodies both words war and warmth. It dreams of turning the page on armed conflict for a post-war world where we have returned to the warmth of human connection. It also references the Soviet term оттепель (thaw), which, in the countries of the former Soviet bloc, refers to a brief period of easing repression and censorship following Stalin's death (1953). Today, WAR(M) expresses our desire for a thaw and our will to invoke the cultural flourishing of the post-war era." -- Olga Dukhovna

Beyond the war and the clichés surrounding Ukrainian folklore, War(m) is an event showcasing the vitality of this culture, the originality and audacity of the artists who reinterpret it and bring it to life in the present.

Gathering, discussing, dancing, sharing, forming perspectives... that's what this massive evening offers. It aims to showcase artists, create a warm atmosphere, foster a space of peace, and talk about liberation, spring, and what comes next.

Performances, a public warm-up, street performances, a flash mob, shows...

War(m) is intended to be a joyful, creative, and collective celebration. A journey both inside and outside the venue, open to everyone.

Join us for surprising encounters between cultures and eras, between minimalism and tradition: between Cossack dances and breakdancing, a shared meal and a DJ set...
